On the Desktop, click the Start button and select Settings -> Network and Dial-Up Connections from the menus.

The Network and Dial-up Connection window appears.

Double click the Make New Connection icon.

The Network Connection Wizard begins.

Click the Next button to continue.

Select the option Dial-up to the Internet.

Click the Next button to continue.

The Internet Connection Wizard begins.

Select the option I want to set up my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN).

Click the Next button to continue.

Select the option Connect using my phone line.

Click the Next button to continue.

Select the option Create a new dial-up connection.

Click the Next button to continue.

Note:  If there are no other connections set up, you go directly to the next screen.

Area code  =  Leave the area code field blank.

Telephone number  =  Enter the Access number you use to connect to the Internet.  This is provided by your Internet service provider.  Enter any other numbers necessary to connect.  For example, if you have 10-digit dialing in your area, enter the area code along with the phone number.  If you have Call Waiting and would like to disable it while you're on the Internet, enter "*70," before the access number, i.e., *70,3125555555.  If you're in a hotel and need to dial a "9," to get an outside line, enter it as well.

Country/region name and code  =  Don't worry about this field.

Uncheck the box Dial using the area code and country code.

Click the Next button to continue.

User name  =  username@launchnet.com.
Password  =  Enter your dial-up password.

Note:  Passwords are case-sensitive.  Ensure your Caps Lock is DISabled.

Click the Next button to continue.

Connection name  =  Leave the name as it is or change it to something more descriptive, such as LaunchNet's name.

Click the Next button to continue.

Do you want to set up an Internet mail account now?:

The following window allows you the option to set up Outlook Express.  For the purposes of this tutorial, we'll select No.

Note:  If you'd like to configure Outlook Express, look at the Create a new account in the Outlook Express tutorials.

Click the Next button to continue.

That's it.

Click the Finish button to complete the Internet Connection Wizard.

Create a Shortcut:

To create a shortcut to the connection, do the following:

On the Desktop, click the Start button and select Settings -> Network and Dial-Up Connections from the menus.

The Network and Dial-up Connections window appears.

Right click the connection and select Create Shortcut from the menu.

A window will pop-up to tell you that you can't create a shortcut here.  You didn't want it here, anyway.

Click the Yes button to put the shortcut on the Desktop.

The shortcut will look like the picture below:

Double click the shortcut to connect to the Internet.

Note:  Don't forget to open your browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) after connecting.
