Edit an existing connection:

To edit an existing connection, do the following:

On the Desktop, click the Start button and select Settings -> Network and Dial-Up Connections from the menus.

 

The Network and Dial-up Connection window appears.

Right click the connection and select Properties from the menu.

 

The Properties window appears.

Select the General tab.

Connect using:

Click the Configure button.

 

The Modem Configuration window appears.

Modem Speed (BPS)  =  Set the speed to 57600.

Hardware features:

Check the box Enable hardware flow control.
Check the box Enable modem error control.
Check the box Enable modem compression.

Click the OK button to save any changes and to close the window.

 

Area code  =  Leave the area code field blank.

Telephone number  =  Enter the Access number you use to connect to the Internet.  This is provided by your Internet service provider.  Enter any other numbers necessary to connect.  For example, if you have 10-digit dialing in your area, enter the area code along with the phone number.  If you have Call Waiting and would like to disable it while you're on the Internet, enter "*70," before the access number, i.e., *70,3125555555.  If you're in a hotel and need to dial a "9," to get an outside line, enter it as well.

Country/region name and code  =  Don't worry about this field.

Uncheck the box Dial using the area code and country code.

 

Select the Options tab.

Dialing options:

If checked, uncheck the box Include Windows logon domain.

 

Select the Security tab.

Security options:

Validate my identity as follows:

Select the option Allow unsecured password from the menu.

 

Select the Networking tab.

Type of dial-up server I am calling:

Select the option PPP: Windows 95/95/NT4/2000, Internet from the menu.

Click the Settings button.

 

If present, remove the checkmark from the option Enable LCP extensions. 
Leave the checkmark in Enable software compression.
If present, remove the checkmark from Negotiate multi-link for single link connections.

Click the OK button to save any changes

 

We return to the Networking tab.

Components checked are used by this connection:

Ensure there is a checkmark in Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Ensure there is a checkmark in Client for Microsoft Networks.

Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button.

 

The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window appears.

Select the option Obtain an IP address automatically.

Although not required, you can enter the DNS server addresses.  You only need to do this if you're having browsing problems.

Select the option Use the following DNS server addresses.

Preferred DNS server  =  Enter the primary DNS address of 209.210.176.8
Alternate DNS server  =  Enter the secondary DNS address of 209.210.176.9

Click the Advanced button.

 

The Advanced TCP/IP Settings window appears.

Select the General tab.

Check the box Use default gateway on remote network.

PPP link:

Check the box Use IP header compression.

Click the OK button to save any changes and to close the window.

 

We return to the following window:

Click the OK button to save any changes and to close the window.

 

We return to the Properties window.

Click the OK button to save any changes and to close the window.

 

We return to the Network and Dial-up Connection window.

Double click the connection to open it.

 

The connection window opens.

User name  =  Verify the dial-up username provided by LaunchNet (including the domain @launchnet.com).
Password  =  Enter the dial-up password provided by LaunchNet.

Note:  Passwords are case-sensitive.  Ensure your Caps Lock key is DISabled.

Click the Dial button to connect.
