PC requirements:  Pentium 200MHz with 64MB of RAM and at least 5 MB of hard-disk space.

Slipstream Overview:

As you browse from site to site on the Internet, information is sent from your computer out to the Internet and back.  This information comes to you in the form of pictures (jpegs, gifs, etc.) and text.  Slipstream technology compresses that information (makes it smaller) and then sends it to and from your computer.  Smaller pieces of information take less time to travel across the Internet.  This technology allows Slipstream to speed your browsing up to 4 - 6 times faster.  It automatically configure Internet Explorer and Netscape.  It will work with any other web browser, but you will need to manually configure the browser yourself.

Compatibility with other software:

Client for Microsoft Networks must be installed for Slipstream to function properly.

Slipstream appears to interfere with XP ZoneAlarm, but this hasn't been confirmed.

Slipstream will interfere with ProxyWatch and GlobalSafe.  They cannot be used together.

Important Browser Notes:

Netscape & Mozilla:  If you stop Slipstream while running Netscape, you must manually remove the proxy address and port.

Opera:  Slipstream does NOT configure the settings automatically in Opera.  You must configure Opera's settings manually yourself.

Menu Overview:

Slipstream Settings Tabs: Image Quality | Connection |

After installing Slipstream you may want to adjust some settings to suit your tastes.

To do this, you will find the Slipstream icon in the bottom, right-hand corner of your desktop.

Click on the icon and select Settings from the menu.

The Settings screen appears:

Note the four tabs:  Image Quality | Connection | Auto Update | Proxy Exclusion |

Image Quality Tab:

The two types of images that Slipstream compresses are JPEGs and GIFs.  These are the two most common types of images used on the Web.

Slipstream will accelerate the transfer of filesFor faster browsing you can lower the quality of the images.

  • For example, if what you're concerned about is mostly text rather than images, move the slider to the left.  You will still get the images, but the pictures will not be as sharp.  This will help increase the transfer rate.

  • If you're more concerned about the images, slide the bar to the right.  Slipstream won't transfer the images as fast, but they will be as clear as you stipulate.

Set the slide bar to your desired setting.
