Tony Cossa

Santa Maria Elks Rodeo
Friday Performance Dedication

Tony Cossa began his insurance carrier joining with Jim Pollard to form Pollard & Cossa in 1966. In 1986 Pollard & Cossa Insurance Agency was named “California Agency of the Year”. They merged with Bobby Acquistapace to form InWest Insurance in 1999. In 2005 InWest merged with Tolman & Wiker Insurance Services.

Cossa was a National Board member of ACORD, a global nonprofit insurance association. 
He also served as president of the Independent Insurance Agents Association of Santa Maria, the Wine and Food Society, the Santa Maria Chamber of Commerce,
1983, the Santa Maria Valley Economic Development Association, 1986, the Rotary Club of Santa Maria, 1994, Santa Maria Country Club 1988&1989, The Southern California Golf Association,
1996 and President of the California Seniors’ Golf Association, 2008. He is the past Secretary of the “Vaqueros de Los Ranchos” and served on the Board of Directors of the “Rancheros Visitadores”.

Cossa served as assistant Chairman of the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo Queen Contest for 10 years and as Queen Chairman for another 10 years and served on the Board of Directors of the Elks Recreation Foundation. Cossa was honored as “Grand Marshal” of the Elks Parade in 1984. He has been recognized as “Citizen of the year” by both the Santa Maria Elks Lodge, 1989 and the Santa Maria Chamber of Commerce, 1991.

Fund raising endeavors have included Chairman of the YMCA building Fund; Chairman of the first student scholarship fundraising auction “BASH” at St. Joseph’s High School,
and while president of the Marian Medical Foundation, he chaired the committee that raised funds to build the Marian Heart Center.

Cossa helped found the Central Coast Chapter of “The First Tee”, a national organization that focuses on character education for children and served as it’s President for 5 years.

Cossa is a 4th Generation native of the Santa Maria Valley. His father, “T. A.”, was a long-time member of the Santa Maria Elks Lodge and worked to prepare the Rodeo grounds and operated the “roping chute” for many years.

Cossa received a degree in business from the University of Southern California in 1963.

In 1983, he successfully passed the examinations and became a Chartered Property/Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).

This Tuesday caught and released this 36", 23 pound Pilot Peak strain of Cutthroat Trout.
Was fly fishing and released the fish. Obviously a fish of a lifetime for a 75 year old..
